Somehow I don't think Galveston is happening for anyone this interview cycle.

I'd say that's a pretty good guess ;o) Actually, I know UTMB is trying to place all their current residents from all residency programs into programs elsewhere (the program director at Ball showed me the email).

So I'm told the GME states that there can only be so many residents per faculty member per program. Are they going to amend that for this catastrophe or keep the rule the same. Because if its not changing then the number of people who can match into path programs just went down. But I'm probably just overreacting....I hope.

yeah i mean there are certainly extenuating circumstances here that transcend the GME rules for the time being. i just hope those residents don't get gyped out of a year of residency - either through a year where they learn nothing, or if they have to do an additional year to make up for the displacement. who knows? what happened to the residents at tulane when katrina hit? i know about some of the IM and Peds people, but i think path is kind of a different story in terms of finding places to work/learn

UTMB is shifting residents for a maximum of two months only - till they get back on track...

Bear in mind that most programs do not send out all of their interview invites at once. If a program has sent out invites and you applied there and haven't heard anything, it doesn't mean you won't. And also, just because you don't get an invite in the "first wave" doesn't mean they don't want you. Some programs seem to invite certain types of applicants first (like perhaps MD/PhDs).

Thank you Yaah, that's a very reassuring post, I definitely needed it! ;)

I did an away rotation at ARUP and got to know a lot of the faculty there. I also got a LOR from one of the head honchos there.

Univ. of Maryland, someone add to list please.

3  I'm not sure if that is a good number or a low number given my situation. ECFMG just uploaded my path lor to eras last night. I wonder if I will start to get more invites now or if I have to wait until my 3rd lor is uploaded. That won't happen until sometime next week I think. I'm also waiting for my step 2 scores... any day now...

I have a question for you guys. When I did a rotation back in April at the hospital that I want the most, the PD told me he was going to give me an interview, but I have not received an invite yet. Should I remind him in some way? or should I be patient and wait? (not easy for me, patience is not a gift I have LOL)

I am in a similiar situation. I have an upcoming rotation at my top place and reminded them of this in my personal statement, but no interview yet. I would like to send them a reminder email, but am going to wait till at least October. If your PD actually promised you an interview, then that is a little different. Has that hospital started to send out invites to others? If so, then maybe give it another week, then remind them.

I would most defiantly remind the PD. From what I understand the program coordinator is really the person that does the scheduling. If the PC doesn't know that the PD had already extended you an informal invite several months ago then the PC won't know to contact you per say. Others may disagree, but that's what I would do. GL! :luck:

It is still early. The most I would do is send an email or letter reminding him/her who you are to let him/her know you submitted your application and are looking forward to hearing from them, or something like that. But like I said, it is still early. Not even October yet.

I would not contact them yet, unless you have seen here that they are already offering interviews to other people. If that's the case, I would give it another week or so (to make sure the offer's not in transit) and then perhaps (if you are on an E-mailing basis) send him a message saying something general like, "I am very interested in your program," or what yaah said.

Thank you so much guys for your suggestions, they are very helpful !!!

UTMB is shifting residents for a maximum of two months only - till they get back on track...

Where is that information coming from?

I heard that UTMB is saying 6 months before the hospital is back even minimally functional status....

And I can't imagine there would be a lot of surgery at or before that time...

I am sure that the residents will be shifted into other programs...
This happened at Tulane back during Katrina...

Has anyone applied to programs in Florida? if so, did you hear anything from them yet?

I guess the rumor mill must be in overdrive then because I heard another rumor that UTMB was going to shift its medical school from Galveston to Austin over the next couple of years. Apparently my source cited that Galveston was losing out big time to the Houston medical center and was thinking of relocating. However, Ike accelerated their timetable. I honestly don't see how that's possible because that's a lot of infrastructure, both personnel and buildings, to move. Anyone else here this?

according to local news reports, the UTMB director just asked for billions of dollars in aid to rebuild the hospital so I guess they are staying in galveston. He also claims that UTMB is the oldest medical school in texas.

btw....the flood of interviews that came last week seems to have subsided. I wonder why they decided to call the people they called first. It seems to be a heterogeneous group of amg's, mdphd, fmg's with different strengths. Now we are back to discussing other important matters

Maybe those programs that have been offering interviews are continuing to send offers, but people on this forum just aren't mentioning it because that program is already on our list.

May be we should make a list where we can see who and how many got interviews from each school. It will help those guys to be in touch with each other as they interview. See previous years interview threads for example.

OK, people. I've updated the list of programs that have given out interview invitations as well as who has said they've gotten an interview there. Please add yourself if I left you off or if you've gotten interview invites at these places already but haven't mentioned it. Also, of course, add any new invitations!
