I have 2 questions regarding state licensure:

1. If I obtained a license in a new state with the intent to move and practice there, but due to a change of circumstances, will NOT be moving or working there at all, what is the best path forward?

I assume it would be to let the license lapse (not pay fees or submit CMEs) rather than surrender it?

I read somewhere that surrendering a license is viewed as a black mark on future applications. Since at this point, I’ve already been granted the license, am I stuck with it (unable get rid of it)?

2. For telemedicine: If I live in State “A”, but only treat patients in State “B”, do I need a license only in State “B”, or both states?

Thank you for any insight you may provide.

1) Each state is different, look into the formal non renewal, inactive, whatever status option. Some you can simply ignore/ghost and it'll resolve itself. Others need your pre-emption.

2) You need a license for state patient is in. Just state B.
