Implanting electrodes for dbs isn't microsurgery and doesn't require the same skill-set as removing tumours. With stereotactic procedures becoming more common, is it possible that one day neurologists will be performing these procedures themselves?

It'll happen around the same time that neurologists can manage the expected complications of said procedure.

There is a nice article currently featured in Cell entitled "Noninvasive Deep Brain Stimulation via Temporally Interfering Electric Fields" that is pretty damn awesome and could lead to more opportunities for neurologists. The research is out of MIT and Harvard (BI).

Read more of Alvaro Pascual-Leone's work, it'll blow your hair back. Nice guy, too.

How about radiosurgery, or does gamma knife carry too many risks for neurologists to handle.
