Say adcoms were to Google your "name+school" or "name + city/hometown," what would they find?

I spent the past 2 years writing a blog that contains a lot of personal information so I had to remove all of those links from Google this past month. Right now, they would find an article about my study abroad trip with some direct quotes from me, some links to Dean's lists, and some grants that I've received. And some random stuff from back in high school that's of no relevance.

You?

My google+ account, which I have no problem with them viewing since I have controlled the content.

After that, it's just all academic stuff.

Wait...people use Google+???

I have a lot of stuff from science fairs and blogs I did in high school. I also have a mention on the main site of the internship I did.

How do you get rid of sites with your name on google? I'm not too proud of some of the blogs I wrote in high school but its the first thing listed when my name is googled :(

An article about graduating college after going through cancer (2 different ones of these actually)
Facebook
LinkedIn
High school valedictorian speech on YouTube
Google+
President of Pre-Health Club

I used Blogger for my blog so there was an option to make it invisible to search engines. Google also offers a "URL Removal" form that will remove links from their database at your request.

Apparently someone from my school also has my name on Tumblr. God.

This is not even a subtle bragfest.

hey would see certain projects, businesses, accounts, domains--just a lot of things I have worked on in the past. Oh and my FB profile.

They'd get to see my nudies.

I heard AdComs love nudies.

Gals gotta make some extra money in college somehow, right?

The first two sites that came up when I googled myself are my profile pages on my school's sports website. The next ~20 are college and high school sports articles with a few scholarly articles too.

Phew. I passed.

There's a comic book writer with the same name as me so... :D

Blame it on the a-a-a-autocorrect.

You would see my Facebook, a newspaper article talking about high school winter sports, and a bunch of high school wrestling awards I earned during my hs career.

My name is fairly common in a few European countries, so you don't find many results that are actually me when you google my name. What you do find is mostly stuff from genealogy.com, primary/secondary school alumni pages, my high school and college graduation announcements, etc. I have made sure that none of my social networking pages link to google, and I would suggest everyone here do the same for your privacy's sake. I'm really surprised at how many people here are casually mentioning that your Facebook page comes up when you google your name.

If Adcoms were to google my name, they would see that I was third in command of a communist country but I died a couple years ago.

Just my name? A basketball player with the same name
Name + city? Link to a college newsletter that highlights an academic award I won

If they Googled my name and hometown, they would find something embarrassing as the second result...something to which I have long since lost the password. Let's just say that early in high school, I wrote music and lyrics to a comedy song about a certain root vegetable. A music profile website has this song and a silly picture of high school Cinclus rocking out. Good thing I'm already in med school and will be applying from a totally different state for residencies.

To my credit, the song isn't that bad and still makes me laugh. :D

I have the same name as an international B-list actor. It would be hard to overtake him in the Google rank algorithm, even if I had a first author article in Nature.

Pages and pages of race results. Maybe my name referenced in a journal article, dean's list stuff.

On the first page though someone with the same name has a dating site and/or web cam site?

I'm not sure because it looks so sketchy I'm afraid I'll get a virus if I click on it. It sucks because she is around the same age as I am so an adcom could easily think it was me. :(

My name is also the name of the main character of a seminal homo-erotic novel. My character has the ability to physically conjure up his fantasies. He apparently spends the book having sex with famous historical figures like Napoleon and Picasso.

I'm not joking.

My name is pretty common in the Spanish-speaking world, so I personally don't appear anywhere. Adding my school doesn't help since I've never gotten any significant accolades

You could always flood the internet with positive blogs about yourself...... like mr. ray

Well this is a little embarrassing.. a local newspaper article comes up which has a picture of me dressed up as Harry Potter at the Half Blood Prince midnight showing along with a quote from me talking about how I had bought a wand recently and "might as well use it"

Hope some adcoms are big HP fans

First question "Did you by chance bring your wand to the interview?"

Google Lela Star

I'm a non-traditional.

Girl, didn't anyone ever tell you to make up a work name?

My name is a former first lady of the united states, apparently. Add my city and you get a bunch of internet white pages that go nowhere, my LinkedIn, and a couple LGBT news sites listing me as a winner of a few LGBT scholarships. A dull but innocuous footprint.

many sites about a sports minister of a european country

My name is very unique (my family is the only family with our last name in our phone book), yet when you google my name you'll see several very specific low-profile normal people's facebooks, myspaces, google+, high school basketball team results, etc. - and none of them are me.

Also, their races are completely assorted.

:ninja::ninja::ninja::ninja:

This is frustrating, not a single person has told us that googling their name brought up pictures of kegstands, amateur porn videos, or former lives as a child star. People on SDN are boring.

Awesome, I survived multiple gunshot wounds!!

Thanks for your kind words. My job requires putting a lot in, it's pretty amazing I've gotten this far, hopefully the AdComs agree I can handle large workloads.

I'd suggest you put a link of your online portfolio in your med school application. That's definitely gonna play in your favor.

Some reviews for hotels and restaurants. Facebook. That's all.

Apparently I might or might not have had sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky

My name and hometown, just some random people search pages claiming to know me.

My name and undergrad, a research note from the PIs site.

My name by itself: A psychologist, a painter, a photographer, a novelist, and my personal favorite yet a porn star. None of these are me, in fact I don't think you get to me for quite a few pages.

Nothing at all related to me. Oh the joys of having common names.

Even in my own state, it's hard to distinguish me from others of similar age with the same name.

Dean's list, obituary of my great grandmother who passed away in the 60s.

Results of people who aren't me: Facebook and myspace pages, police blotter article for a convicted juvenile burglar in Georgia, message board posts.

They would stumble on my twitter account. Fortunately my tweets were unprotected, although I thought they were protected. Twitter happens to be where I express my real thoughts to my friends without worrying about someone in my family or the likes seeing it. However, tweets from the past 8 months are available to the google world! Looks like I have some deleting to do. Damn it.

Professional is where the money is at. ;)

:bang:

But then an AdCom wouldn't see it!

All the publications I didn't have room to include on my AMCAS primary.
