I was curious about what kind of MCAT score I would need to be competitive at top med schools or top mid-range schools — will take mcat later in August. Assuming that I scored very well on the MCAT what would my chances be for a top med school? Not considering DO, would prefer to stick to east coast
Currently planning to take 1 gap year by getting an MEng in biomedical engineering or in Applied Eng. Physics (hopefully at Cornell, obv. pending acceptance)
Major: Physics, concentrating in chemistry @ Cornell
Minor: Nutrition & Health
cGPA:3.63
sGPA:3.62
Special Considerations:
Female URM (hispanic - puerto rican)
Jefferson legacy
PA resident,US citizen
Experiences:
~600+ hours on university’s EMT agency (will have been a member for 4 years when I apply), executive board member for 2 years/ CPR instructor, outstanding member award winner, wilderness first aid certified
~ research in physics lab (will be 2 years when I graduate) and one semester of research in a very well known food psychology research lab, no publications in either (yet, but anticipated in future for physics research)
~80 hours shadowing with individual doctors in their private practices, 4 different practices/specialties, both DO/ MD
~ full summer of shadowing after junior year ~20 different departments at local hospital (~200 hours)
~50-60 hours of ER volunteering/shadowing
~ 6 years pet therapy work at local hospital, visiting with primarily chemo patients
~3 years training/evaluating other pet therapy teams (20+ teams added to program)
