Veterans' preference for VA residencies?

Does anyone know if PGY1/2 programs in the VA system offer veterans' preference? I can't find it mentioned anywhere on the ASHP directory or in specific program pages.

They won't openly offer it. Veteran status is one of these things we aren't supposed to ask if you don't offer. Not to mention that residencies are so competitive that it probably isn't good for the work environment to give any implication that you were chosen for any reason that you were ranked based on being the best candidate and then matched.

Veterans' Preference is not a required factor for VAs to use when ranking residency applicants. However, programs can use veteran status as a factor when scoring applicants. During my residency year, we invited all of the next year's veteran applicants to interviews. However, not all were ranked, as our ranking was entirely based on interview performance.
