Thanks! I had my interview on 8/22 and I got the call yesterday at the end of the day. Kind of worried about getting cleared for clinical though, since many places don't allow dogs.

Great job man, I've seen your posts around here and everything has come full circle! Hopefully I'll be in your position in a few months!

Also yeah some places are strict with pets, it makes sense, good luck finding a place though!

Hey fellow underdawgs!

Quick question... I am not enrolled in an "official" SMP, but I have been taking masters level courses (physio, histo, embryology, etc.) that are affiliated with a USMD school and have done VERY well (4.0 for 30 credit hours). My undergrad cGPA was 3.02 and sGPA 2.93.

I got my **** together and found out how to study best for ME, not how I *thought* that I should study. Do I need to take another semester and keep up the 4.0 or have I redeemed myself and my past sins?

I would recommend making a WAMC (What Are My Chances?) thread. There is a specific forum for that, located here: What Are My Chances?

Otherwise, the general wisdom is that you want to have a cumulative AND science GPA >3.0. Many schools have cutoffs at 3.0. This means you need to take enough undergraduate (not masters level, unless they are somehow classified as undergraduate courses) courses to raise your science GPA. If you do that, a 4.0 for 30 credit hours is probably enough though I am not sure how many credit hours people normally recommend for that. I have a low GPA, fewer post-bacc courses, and have received interviews at DO schools. Have you taken the MCAT?

Are you applying next cycle? Pretty late in this cycle to start an app.

If next cycle (makes more sense to me), you should calculate to see if it would be possible to bring up that sGPA to 3.0 in the next few quarters/couple semesters. That would make you way more competitive at a lot of schools. And yeah, I think you would stand an excellent shot, at least academically, at receiving interview invites.

It is still unclear to me whether the courses @frosted2 has taken count towards their undergrad GPA. @frosted2- is your sGPA a 2.93 with the postbacc GPA factored in? You will want to see if those courses may be factored in. Are the courses part of a formal masters program?

I took graduate level courses so I think they only count towards my GPA for DO schools. I have not factored those into my GPA yet... the 2.93 sGPA is from only my undergrad courses.

This is not a formal masters program, I am just taking courses that model the first 2 years of med school. With those courses factored into my undergrad GPA, I have a cGPA of 3.18 and a sGPA of 3.16.

I am planning on applying during the next cycle for entrance in the fall 0f 2019 :)
 
Does anyone know if the screening is for sGPA/cGPA or both? I could make the 3.0 cutoff if they only screen for one of the GPA's.

Both. I'd really make a WAMC thread though. Your GPA is low but that SMP and a good MCAT will open some MD doors as well as DO.
