Hello All nice helpful people,

PGY1 here almost finishing the year

When preparing for exams, I am not feeling too confident about how "well'' have I learnt something. I can only read, go through concepts and attempt MCQs. There are SO MANY concepts that i cannot make algorithms and mnemonics and charts for every single concept.
I am re reading and I am like ok i know this stuff! well thats about it. If someone stops and asks me to explain, I think i can but will need time. It is not like information is on top of my finger tips.

Do you actively sit and memorize? re write things, come up with stories or helpful connections to remember things. It seems daunting to do it for every single thing.
Trauma itself can have a 1000 of these. Let alone sports, spine, onco, recon..

What is your learning style and preparation method for exams?

I am doing questions from orthobullets and AAOS, Self assesment Exams given to us by the program but its ALL NEW concepts and i am not getting this ''expert on a topic'' feeling regardless how much ever i do.
I am getting this feeling that i am learning broken concepts.
If X and X part fractures - deformity Y and Z happens.
Or UBC has 1.2.3 histo and x ray findings.
Or risk to L5 when placing screws - use X, Y, Z views.

I dont know the whys, explanations and other details.
I think I am in trouble.
A bit lost here, help would be greatly appreciated.

Ours is in another few weeks.
So not feeling very good about this.
I wanted to know how 'prepared' do interns feel going into exams.

Ah. My mistake.

I don't think most interns feel "prepared" going into the exams. Learning orthopaedics is basically re-starting medical school. So it's probably going to take a few "reps" and practical experience before this stuff starts to stick.

Also, I may be wrong, but I think your graded against other interns.
