I'm a medical student planning to go into surgery for residency because I love the OR environment and seeing patients improve in short periods of time. However, I also want to get into industry at some point down the road to help develop new products that can improve treatment. Most of the information that I've found online so far are about medicine folks joining biotech or pharmaceutical companies but not much about surgeons. My questions are:

-Would it be correct to assume that surgeons would fit best at medical device companies?

-What types of roles would surgeons play at these companies?

-Would prior research experience in an academic surgery career be advantageous for joining industry?

-Are there certain surgery subspecialties that would have more opportunities in industry?

Would also love to hear about any experiences in general about physicians working in industry. Thanks
