I am interested in learning more about speech pathology as a career, and I have a question. This may be kind of weird to ask, but do all speech pathologists need to have perfect "standard" accents and no speech problems themselves? For instance, if someone from the US had a very strong southern accent, would this be a major problem if he or she chose to study speech pathology and pursue it as a career?

Southern accent? Not really a problem. Even if you were working somewhere besides the south, as long as you could produce the sound you were working on with a client you would be totally fine.

Great! I would be working in the South as well, so hopefully it would not be extremely noticeable when compared to everyone else's accent.
