Hey everyone,

I'm a non-EU citizen about to graduate from med school in Romania (EU) in a couple of month and have been looking into Ireland as an option. From what I gather, as a Category 3 applicant (non-EU citizen from EU med school) of a 6 year program, I'm exempt from the internship and the PRES & would be eligible for a SHO post. Got a couple of questions though:
1. How do I go about applying for a post? Do I apply to various hospitals or would I have to take part in a centralized match?
2. Do I have to be registered with the Irish Medical Council before I do? If so, should I apply for General Registration OR Trainee Specialist Registration?
3. What are the chances of a Category 3 applicant being offered a post in a Pediatric-based SHO post? (I want to 'specialize' in pediatrics.)
4. Could someone outline how I could go about registering + applying for a SHO post please?

Thanks a bunch. :)

I would also love whatever information has been found on this subject. I am also non EU (Canadian) and graduating from Med school in Hungary. I would love to do a surgical residency in Ireland. Any info would be most appreciated!

Hy to all. I've seen the discussion is almost dead. However, could someone share his/her experience as a non-EU citizen with EU med degree.
I am from Moldova Republic. I am specialized in surgical pathology in my country of origin and have an italian medical university degree (laurea in medicina e chirurgia). I have even passed a State Exam in Italy so, allowed to practice medicine at least in this country.
However I am interested to continue my studies in Ireland, but non shure if it is possible for non-EU citizens.
Thanks.

Hi,

I realize this thread is a bit old, but there is very little information about Italian medical schools. I am a non- EU citizen interested in attending medical school in Milan, Italy. I have several questions for you. Could you please tell me a little bit about your experience? Which university did you attend? Are the native programs more rigorous than the International programs? How do you feel about the demand for doctors? Any additional information or insight that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
