Thank you for sharing this -- great news! What are the consequences of officially receiving this designation? Does it open up more funding for research?
 
Yes, it does open up more funding for research, as well as funding for health policy and public health initiatives, improving awareness among physicians to entice them to read the latest literature concerning LGBTQ disparities and care protocols, and lastly, perhaps finally shifting LGBTQ health professions applicants into the underrepresented in medicine category. I see it as one of the largest impacts to our community since sexual and gender minorities were deemed non-pathological and legitimate identities. :)
