"Verbal information from the left ear which first go to the auditory cortex in the right hemisphere must be processed by the language areas of the left hemisphere"

The statement in bold doesn't make sense to me why would information from the left ear go to the auditory cortex in the right hemisphere then to the left hemisphere?

Thanks!

Because the left hemisphere is the processing center for most , if not all, verbal information/ or language in general. The two concepts that this question is testing are the broca and wernike area. The broca area which is involved with speech production is located in the dominant hemisphere of the brain (left) for most people( since most are right handed), and the wernike area, which is involved with speech comprehension is located in the left hemisphere of the temporal lobe.

The key is to remember that the brain is lateralized and many of the inputs to the brain are also lateralized - vision, for example. Many inputs "cross over" - you should know the types of inputs that do this.
