Hey guys,

Is it worth it to pay down as much principle on my undergrad debt (11K) before medical school? Or would it be better to save the money for medical school tuition/living expenses? OR does it not even matter since the undegrad debt will again be put into deferment?

Thanks!

Interest free deferment?

Yup. These undergrad loans are subsidized (non interest accruing loan) during deferment. That actually answers my question! Doh. Since medical school loans are (for the most part?) unsubsidized it would be better to take out less FOR medical school.

Yea if it's not going to accrue interest I wouldn't worry about it. Idk what kind of job you have now, but chances are that the $500/mo (or whatever you would need to pay) payment now will be a much more significant part of your current paycheck than tacking $11K onto your 10 year med school repayment plan.
