Hey!
Been lurking on here for a while, and I know that this forum caters mainly to US audiences. Also, I've posted something similar on another board, but have received only a single reply. I was hoping someone can tell me what the current job market is like for pathologists in Canada?
First of all, is it difficult to find a job?
Is it like other specialties where there are shortages in under serviced areas, whereas there is a glut within larger cities? Are there even openings in under serviced areas, or are pathologists in Canada mainly tied to larger academic centers? Are there any private labs or "private practice" opportunities? Are most of these positions unadvertised as they are in the US?
What's the perceived trend for the near future? Is it likely there will be an increased need for pathologists? Or is there a feel of gloom and doom, as some have predicted about the U.S., for example?
Are generalist more sought after or subspecialists?
What's the median salary (especially starting out) for pathologists in Canada? Are most of these positions salaried, or is it fee-for-service based? Or is there some other reimbursement scheme? And just as an added aside: How about Australia or New Zealand?
Thanks,
pm
