With the student loan debt that you’ll have to pay back, I don’t think you really have any other choices. Am I correct to assume that you are still single right now? When you get married and have kids, you’ll have to assume a much greater financial responsibility. Learn to love dentistry. Learn to master a variety of procedures (including the ones that you hate) so you can get a better paying job. No employer wants to hire an associate dentist who is slow and can only perform a few procedures.
There’s no such thing as a fun and enjoyable job. Dentistry offers financial freedom and stability and that’s why I chose it. You can avoid doing drillings and fillings by specializing but there are also drawbacks to being a specialist such as higher student loan debt, lower job availability, driving long distance to different offices to work, relying on GPs for referrals etc. We, orthodontists, don’t like going around begging the general dentists to refer patients to us but we all have to do it in order to pay off our student + business loan debts.
