My understanding is that the fields is known for dark rooms, no patient contact, and poor compensation. It is not like being an MD radiologist.

The only place you can work as radiology specialist I can think of is full time academic setting.

For part-time, I see some faculty open x-ray office (CT scan, ceph) and offer interpretation service (such as how much bone height for the implant placement).
 
Is there a reason why it is a ADA accredited specialty yet it is just aN academic specialty? I would have loved it if the work was similar to the MD counterpart.
There's nothing stopping you from opening your own specialty practice, other than the difficulty of getting enough referrals/patients to survive.
