Hi everyone!

I'm getting ready to apply for ophtho residencies and I wanted some advice in how to proceed. I go to a low-middle tier school in the south.

Preclinical - P/F school
Step 1 - 236
Step 2 - Taking after IM rotation, planning on studying 4 weeks
Clinical - Mix of P/HP/H
AOA - no
Research - 4 publications, 1 ophtho related
6 presentations and posters, 2 poster presentations at ARVO this year
Letters - 2 personal letters from faculty who know me well, 1 from program director hopefully

I've been interested in Ophthalmology very early in medical school. I'm planning on applying to every program, and I don't have a preference with location as long as I get solid training. I've already received 1 2 week externship offer. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

You're applying to every program -- what advice are you looking for?

Just wanted to gauge my competitiveness and know what I should do as I head into my applications/externships/interviews.

The skeleton of your application looks fine to me. Strong letters are very important, of course, and in general externships in ophtho only help you at that program. You may elect to save some money and apply to a select few top-tier programs rather than all of them.
