SCI fellowship opportunity at USF and JA Haley VA, one of the premier spinal cord units in the VA system. We have been approved and funded for a third SCI fellowship spot at the Palo Alto VA/Stanford program starting in the summer of 2012. Our fellowship consists of the following:

1. Inpatient SCI at the Palo Alto VA (acute and chronic SCI)
2. Outpatient SCI clinic at the Palo Alto VA
3. Two month rotation at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center focusing on acute SCI and vent weaning of high tetraplegics
4. Participation in specialty services at the Palo Alto VA, such as urodynamics, plastic surgeries, hand clinic, sexuality clinic, and neuroradiology
5. Pediatric rotation at Children's Hospital Oakland
6. MS clinics at UCSF
7. Opportunities to do research and PI projects

Applicants must have completed an accredited transitional year program or an accredited internship that includes at least six months of training in family medicine, internal medicine, emergency medicine, obstetrics-gynecology, pediatrics, or surgery, or any combination of these patient care experiences. The remaining months of this year may include any combination of accredited specialties or subspecialties.

The University of Pennsylvania PM&R Residency Program has an open PGY-3 position available to start in July 2012.

Section of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at University of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center is seeking candidates for one year non-accredited cancer rehabilitation fellowship starting July 2013.

The 1 year multi-disciplinary fellowship experience involves:
- inpatient, outpatient & consult services (exposure to all types of cancer)
- Rotations with Pain service, Psychiatry service (including issues of sexual dysfunction) & Palliative Care/Symptom control service
- Opportunities to observe patients in Head/Neck, Survivorship & Fatigue clinics, Orthopedics service, patients undergoing lymphedema management, bowel management (specific for cancer patients), wound ostomy approaches for cancer patients
- Understanding approaches to cancer patients via complementary and integrative medicine
- Journal clubs (both PM&R and Palliative Care)
- Opportunities for research (including time off for writing including proposals)
- Faculty to mentor the research is available
- Access to infrastructure for completion of research is also available
- Rounds
- Formal, some of which are required for all of the fellows at MD Anderson and these address various cancers, treatments etc.
- Informal - usually 1-2x/week
- Department grand rounds - once a week
- Chairman's rounds - once a week
- Opportunities to participate in other grand rounds including Pain (once a week) & Complementary Integrative Medicine among others
- In addition, topics covering administrative and billing aspects are also covered. There is a significant amount of reading material available specific to rehab needs of cancer.

There is inherent flexibility in the schedule. Times may be added depending on interest and inclination in certain areas and subtracted elsewhere. The inpatient and consult services are usually 3-4 months each. Research is allocated about 1 month (once again depends on interest of the candidate).

The philosophy of the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Center is continuity of care through the lifetime and inclusion of family and caregivers in planning and care decisions. Our goal is provision of comprehensive and specialty care to allow patients to achieve functional independence, enhance quality of life, and regain and maintain their role in society. Our approach is interdisciplinary and involves a team of rehabilitation clinicians including nursing, therapy, psychology and social work. We offer inpatient care and follow patients in outpatient clinics as well as via Home Care.
In our program, Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Medicine Fellows will:
 Gain unique clinical and research experience in an academically oriented environment.
 Achieve proficiency in comprehensive spinal cord injury (SCI) medicine with exposure to all related specialties (such as neurosurgery, plastic surgery, pulmonary medicine, etc.) as well as acute care of newly injured patients from ER through initial rehabilitation.
 Participate in on-going studies of cardiovascular and metabolic disease, osteoporosis, nutrition, and telemedicine applications. Potential exists to develop novel research directions and conduct independent research.
 Engage in “Hub and Spokes” approach; learn about the VA system of coordinated care.
Two Fellowships Programs are available to provide basic and advanced training.
Stanford ACGME-approved Clinical Fellowship in SCI Medicine (1 year)
This Fellowship is intended for PM&R physicians who want to gain specialized experience in the field of SCI Medicine. Expectation is 80% clinical and 20% research, tailored to individual experience and interest. The primary site is VA Palo Alto SCI Center with two months spent at the regional Santa Clara Valley SCI Center. Fellows are provided one-on-one training, didactic education, and clinical mentoring. Non-PM&R clinicians in related fields may also be eligible.
VA Advanced SCI Medicine Fellowship (2 years)
This Fellowship is intended for PM&R physicians who have completed an ACGME SCI Fellowship and also is open to non-PM&R physicians interested in advancing their skills and knowledge in SCI Medicine. Focus is 80-100% research, tailored to individual experience and interest. Leadership skills and development of a broader vision are emphasized. Involvement in outcomes management, quality improvement, administration and program management are available. Advanced fellows are expected to be capable of self-direction and independence.
 
The Florida Spine Institute in Clearwater, Florida has an opening for their Interventional/Pain Management of Spine Disorders fellowship program for the 2013-14 year.

This fellowship will prepare you for a career in private practice, research or academic medicine. The program features:
• Hands on experience with a multitude of injection procedures including but not limited to epidurals, facet injections, trial spinal cord stimulators, pain pumps, etc…
• Extensive EMG and musculoskeletal medicine training.
• Musculoskeletal ultrasound training.
• A large, varied patient population and close working relationships with Physical Medicine and Rehab as well as Anesthesia/Pain Management.

The New England Baptist Hospital Spine Physiatry Fellowship

The NEBH Spine Center in Boston, MA, offers a one-year fellowship training program geared towards the development of outstanding clinical skills in evaluation and management of a broad variety of spinal disorders as well as other general musculoskeletal conditions. Clinical skills in the outpatient evaluation and examination of spinal pain through sound physical examination techniques and radiographic assessment are emphasized. The fellow will become proficient in reading his/her own imaging. The fellow will have solely performed about 1,000 interventional procedures by the end of the fellowship year. Exposure to interventional spine procedures is thorough, and includes all spine levels. Fellows attain proficiency in cervical, thoracic and lumbar procedures, including interlaminar epidural, transforaminal injection, medial branch block, rhizotomy, cryoablation, kyphoplasty, facet and sacroiliac joint injection, and peripheral joint/MSK injection. Fellows will understand the natural history of painful spine disorders.


Fellows are expected to be actively involved in a research and education project(s) and publication for successful completion. Approximately 50% of the fellow's time is spent in the outpatient clinic, 40% procedures/spinal injections and 10% EMG clinic and research.

Fellowship year is from Aug 1, 2016 - July 31, 2017.

HUDSON SPINE & PAIN MEDICINE

PAIN FELLOWSHIP


Hudson Spine is very pleased to announce the establishment of a new Interventional Spine Fellowship, a non-ACMGE accredited program (2016-2017) located in TriBeCa, New York City. We are proud to provide true multi-disciplinary training and are one of the only private practice fellowships in New York City. Our facility is staffed with a dedicated group of physicians in various specialties all concerning pain management. The fellow will work alongside specialists in sports medicine, orthopedics (both sports and spine), neurology/headache, podiatry, plastics/hand surgery, and physical therapy. A particular strength of this fellowship is exposure to a highly interventional practice where the fellow will receive hands-on training in a wide variety of cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacral interventional techniques as well as peripheral joint injections using fluoroscopy and ultrasound guidance. These include epidurals, facet interventions, intradiscal procedures, kyphoplasty, radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation, sympathetic blocks, neuromodulation (SCS), acupuncture and regenerative therapy.

We have a comprehensive 8,000 square foot modern facility with three procedural suites and five full time pain management physicians on staff. As part of our expansion, we are opening our new Hudson Medical Wellness Center in February 2016. This will be a large facility dedicated to alternative treatments of pain including comprehensive physical therapy and rehabilitation, nutrition, personal training, acupuncture, regenerative and anti-aging medicine. Upon completion of the fellowship, the trainee will have developed outstanding clinical skills in evaluation and management of a broad variety of spinal disorders as well as other musculoskeletal conditions. In addition, fellows will be exposed to the inner workings of a high volume private practice.
