Does anyone know if programs generally accept Canadian students for 1 year OMS internships? Also, if they do what visa classification do they generally fall under?

Thanks

Lincoln Medical Center in Bronx, NY accepts Canadians for 1 year internship. For the candidates who match at Lincoln Medical Center and are not American citizens, the hospital sponsors H1 visas, ECFMG provides sponsorship for J1 visa. Applicants looking for H1 visa must pass USMLE III to be eligible for this particular type of visa. All matched applicants who do not have USMLE III by the match date are required to apply for J-1 visa.

You can get a TN visa (its a temporary work permit, renewable an infinity amount of times, year-by-year) as a Canadian dentist. It is very easy to get, costs the hospital next to nothing for you to apply. This is probably the best option for you.
Many programs in NY accepts Canadians for OMFS internships. Have you done a 1-year GPR? Or will you be applying straight out of dental school?
Your choices as a Canadian dentist are an H-1B and TN; I'm pretty sure you cannot get a J-1.

A J-1 is usually disbursed under the ECFMG (for medical residencies, for those that have an MD). You, as a Canadian Dentist, will not be able to take USMLE Step 3 (an MD exam) and will not fall under the ECFMG's guidelines.
