hi fellow snders,

for any of those that are either currently in DO school or have already completed the DO degree - how hard was the manual dexterity component of your OMM courses? have any students failed out because they did not have good enough manual dexterity to get through the OMM course? is a OMM manual dexterity related component on any of the board exams / certification exams?

You need good tactile sensory but not manual dexterity per se. It's all about hand placement and position of thrust. Even with counterstrain you just put your finger on the pain point and hold the position.

thanks so much for the response. so ultimately the only way to do poorly in your OMM courses is either failing at the didactic portion of the OMM courses or simply having poor sensation in your hands? so precision/minute movements & excellent hand-eye coordination (ex: as in dentistry/surgery) is not as important in your OMM courses?

Not really, it's more being able to recognize the rotation of the vertebra by sight and feel. Subtleties of the tissue textures is hard to learn at first but other wise you really don't have to have good eye hand co-ordination. It's not fine motor like surgery. Most of it is rudimentary motions. I have arthritis in my hands and have no problem with doing manip on patients. It's not an exact science.
