Congrats :D I think I felt the same way as you. It's a miracle I passed as well. I think the exam is curved, and there are people who sign up for the test that probably don't even know what PTCB stands for. Bless their souls. =P

Congrats to you as well!!! ***hugs*** =)

do you know if we still need to register with the state board of pharmacy in order to get the CPhT license?

Congratulations to you both! It's a wonderful accomplishment that sets you above your counterparts. As far as Nevada was concerned, the CPhT designation came with passage of the PTCB examination, and was independent of your registration with the board of pharmacy. The registration with the BOP only gives you the right to work as a pharm tech in Nevada, and passage of the PCTB wasn't reported to the BOP. In other words, you've earned the right to use "CPhT" at the end of your name by passing the exam, and receiving the certificate. Of course, every state is different ;)

:D I think that this certificate is the lowest degree you ever got. So why to get so excited about getting it? I thought that any student even in highschool can take this exam and get it? is it right?

Please re-read your post...you've got to admit it sounds condescending and rude. Let's see you pass it, hotshot. I know techs at my workplace who studied long and hard for that exam. They earned their CPhTs.

Sorry! I didn't mean to be rude. I just thought that all students in here are pre-pharmacy college students with a minimum of bachelor degree, which is much higher than a certificate. I never see anybody in this forum becoming so excited in getting their BA or BS degree. I understand that excitation if your goal is to become a pharm-tech and there is nothing wrong to be a pharm-tech. They are very useful.

Thanks for your comment LVPharm. I'm not entirely sure how the grading scale works for the PTCB exam, but I can guarantee you that the questions you see there are NOT easy and the exam isn't something you can generally pass by studying just one night with a few beers. I am excited because I thought I was so sure to fail, but as luck would have it, I passed. I think another reason that merits my excitement is because 1) I don't have a B.S. Degree yet, so this surely is something braggable 2) It's something you can easily put on your resume/pharm. school app. 3) As you all may or may not know, getting experience in the pharmacy is VERY difficult because of liability/risks etc. Which is understandable.. I mean, what are they going to tell the senile old men when all the damn Viagra is missing??? Having a CPhT degree definitely opens doors because it allows you to not only gain experience in a pharmacy, but you get PAID to do it as well. Anyway, here is some more relevant information... according to this site, you DO have to register as a CPhT to work in California, and it costs $50.... stupid stupid governator...

Much more than useful...indispensable. A good pharmacy tech makes us pharmacists look good. Having pharmacy technicians develop a level of competency above simply being able to get prescriptions through third party and working the computer will allow me to do more for my patients.

I consider the purpose of my job as a technician is to make the job of the pharmacist easier. Not only has this work ethic earned me an outstanding recommendation for pharmacy school, but has given me a greater appreciation for pharmacy as a whole.

CTJ: Why should you discount a high school student that is a CPhT? A CPhT is a CPhT, regardless of their age or academic background. It's not a degree, it's recognition for a particular level of knowledge in the profession. Remember that not everyone passes that test, either.

I'm taking it in November. I just started a job and they told me if I become certified it's an extra $1/hr. They gave me these really thick books to study from and they'll pay for my first exam (so I really need to pass it!). I'm really nervous about it. With school starting again and work I don't know how I'll find time to prepare. And I'm still not really good with brand/generic names even though I've already gone through one year of pharmacy school!

Wait. You've gone through one year of pharmacy school and you're about to take a technician certification exam?

if ctj's been reading the forum, or if only he/she has searched the forum, he/she wouldn't have posted n00b comments like hs students can take ptcb or all pre-pharm students have bs/ba degrees.

in addition, my join date was 7 months ahead of ctj's.

i may have 0+ posts, but i read teh forum. O_O

Relax. I didn't mean anything negative towards you. I just thought your comment was funny.

CTJ already apologized for the comment. Can we just move on, please?

Whew,

I'm glad I beat the deadline. I got my technicians license four years ago right before the abolished the "gandfathering in" promotion to technician.

How come you're working as a tech and not an intern?

I'm not really sure about the whole tech versus intern thing. All I know is my official title is "pharmacy assistant" but basically I'm a pharmacy technician and get paid an intern's salary. Maybe that's just the way Target does things?

No that is not how target does things. I work at target as an intern and my title is "Pharmacy Intern".

What's the difference between intern and tech besides pay? Is it just that you can counsel patients under the pharmacist's watch? What was your hiring process like? I only had one interview with the general store supervisor and one interview with the pharmacy manager.

i agree. many people at the test site seemed like they didn't know what they were there for. for example, at the end of the exam, the lady next to me was like, "i think you and i did okay, cos we have a lot of same answers!!"

however, but i did meet a few others that sounded very confident and experienced. they were talking about different drugs and IVs... i didn't say much cos i didn't know what they were talking about. o_O

Interns (in Arizona) can do phone transfers and accept new prescriptions over the phone. Technician cannot. Interns can also make recommendations for over the counter products. Oh, and as an intern, I could touch the super locked up drugs (C-IIs) too, which the technicians were not allowed to do.

It is now 2017 and I'm not sure of how or what to study? Please help!

If you have money to spend, I hear Mosby's book for pharmacy technician is the best to study.

If you have no money, use pharmacy-tech-study.com and get very familiar with everything on that site. Do the practice quizzes to catch little mistakes you could possibly make. Also, you should read and study http://freepages.school-alumni.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~dpok/APhA - The Pharmacy Technician, 4th Edition.pdf Skip chapter 1. There are a couple of conflicting information between the website and the book, I went with the websites information.

I used the website + the free book and passed no problem.
