Why is it necessary to have completed a GPR or AEGD in order to apply?
I assume because they're paying you a PGY-2 salary.

And weeds out applicants.I assume because they're paying you a PGY-2 salary.
What about gpr, internship, and then 4 year program? And weeds out applicants.
Dude I can't imagine going to dental school for 4 years, then a GPR, then an internship, then a 6Y program. But for those willing to do it, it shows they are serious and they really want it.
Wow. My wife would kill me.
No. I have no interest in becoming an oral surgeon. What about gpr, internship, and then 4 year program?
Most interns are more proactive on seeking out those positions. Programs will often not even post here unless they're having trouble filling a spot.
Is the spot still available? The Brooklyn Hospital Center Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Internship Training Opportunity for July 1, 2017-June 30, 2018:
