Official 2017-2018 Rheumatology Fellowship Application Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not matched means for example. If you are US IMG and if u rank only one program in rheumatology , you will not match .
If you are non US IMG and rank only 2 programs , then you will not match

That's not at all what it means. It means that among all US IMGs that ended up not matching, the median number of programs ranked was 1. You can match with 1, you may still not match with 10. Welcome to being the n=1.

Agreed with u . People can match even with one interview. For AMGs 4-5 interviews are pretty safe to match

Do you think as an AMG in academic residency it will be enough w 8 interviews? I don't feel like doing 10, which was my original goal. Lol.

Hard question to answer. Depends how good you look in person when interviewing. If you a strong interview candidate then even 1 is enough but I think statistically 4-6 is good.

Even top programs interview about 12 applicants per spot, so just doing the math, the more the better if you are not a stellar applicant.

Someone said they only invited 3-4 people for one position

Programs interview about 8 candidates for one spot. If a program has two positions then they interview 16 candidates.

New week is beginning, hope we get more answers from programs this week.

Is there anyone here with no interview yet ? If so is it worth even being hopeful ?

How many interviews should we have at this point to be competitive? Should there be more coming?

6 still....and to think I said maybe I'll just do 8 lmao. Well I even get more?

Guys, I still think it's early. From what I heard from my friends who are fellows, they kept on getting interviews into end of August into early September. Heck, one of them applied late (past Sept) and still matched!

Congrats on scripps invite. Would you mind sharing your stats? Do you know if they lots of dates to pick from?

Rejection from UCSF today.

IMG w/o Visa issues...have 3 interviews.

Kind of surprised that the IMG interviews are such a small fraction of the total. Last year US graduates made up 43% of the residents matched compared to mid 50s, mid 50s, 60s for cardio, pulm and GI respectively (per NRMP data 2016) Makes me think..

1) IMG interviews will come later in the month after AMG obtain interviews, which is often the case I've heard.
2) IMGs are not well represented on the forum
3) The competitiveness has drastically increased...although the percent of US % has remained stable-ish the past few years.

Have a few friends who are IMGs applying for other specialties and some who have matched from last year and they mention interviews were coming later.

Fingers crossed for everyone :) Just some thoughts.

They offered 4 dates. I'm an AMG, went to a state allopathic medical school and am at a large academic residency program now. Step 1 score >240, CK and Step 3 >260.

I think people will probably start canceling some interviews at the end of this month, so I think there's definitely no reason to worry yet!

It must be expensive attending 7 interviews but sounds like a good problem to have :)

Oh you must have meant 7 interviews for IMGs

I am starting to worry about it now. Only 2 IV so far, 3 rejections among 48 programs applied.
