Hey would anyone be able to give me some insight on the Nova Southeastern program. I am interested in applying this upcoming cohort and I wanted some insight. I am interested in doing orthopedics, probably go into a sports residency after I finish DPT and get my SCS. Would Nova Southeastern properly prepare me for it? I currently have my CSCS and have done an internship with EXOS where I also did shadowing hours with their PT. Thanks!

I'm a current student at Nova, regardless of the program you go to you will get generally the same curriculum, you graduate a generalist and then what you decide to do afterwards is your choice. I will say that our ortho classes are superb (good professors, well organized, etc). If you want to do a sports residency after then you can go for it but I don't think there is one specific program that will prepare you more than another. If you want more sports stuff then get in with the professors and they will be happy to talk with you about potential opportunities.

Got it, would you be able to tell me if my stats seem strong for application to NOVA?

Great, looks like I'm right in the range. Did you decide to accept the offer from Nova?

Honestly you're competitive, I think that Nova does a really nice job at looking at the whole applicant - the class is not just 4.0 students across the board. They look at everything and try and find the students that will be most successful in the program. While your observation hours are high they are limited to 2 settings it seems, I would try and find 1 or 2 more setting to observe in (even if its for 10-20 hours), programs like to see that you have experienced many aspects of PT and not just the typical outpatient. An applicant could have 3000 hours in outpatient (because they are a tech) and then another applicant has 50 in outpatient, 20 in inpatient acute 20 in rehab 10 at a SNF, and 15 at aqua therapy - if basing strictly on observation I would put money that the program will pick the person with far less hours but more settings as they are a more 'rounded' applicant in the sense of that have seen many aspects of PT rather than just a single part of it.

Best of luck, if you have any other questions regarding the program feel free to PM me.

Thanks for your input, I was under the impression that my time at EXOS was considered a specialty setting as it is primarily elite level athletes and tactical soldiers, no general population. That is at least what University of Colorado was telling me, if not I might as well just find another site to add on.

I didn't realize it was a speciality, know that different schools may not know of one specific internship place such as EXOS, be sure to say exactly what you did in it and how it was different than say a typical outpatient population/clinic. Regardless I would do at least one other setting - it will only make you that much more competitive.

Good call, I'll be sure to specify that when I apply. I'm working on getting some aqua PT hours. Thanks!

Did your cumulative GPA drop on PTCAS?
Ok so my official PTCAS GPA at the moment is a 3.47 -- due to two outstanding classes. I just heard back from NSU and they have told me that my application has been put on "hold." That they are gonna continue to carefully review my application for longer. This is probably because I have not completed those two courses yet, CHEM-II and PHYSICS-II. Did you apply? Have you heard back?

I applied and they had me write an additional essay for the review committee, not sure why, but I'm the first person that I know of to have to do that so far.

They just gave me a deadline of November 3rd to turn it in. On the website where you submit your supplemental application, I have two processed applications. The first says under admission type: entry level PT app and the second was processed a day later saying admission type, physical therapy, entry level. Not sure what that means, I haven't been told I was on hold. Did they tell you that specifically or does you sup app say hold?

I sent them my essay awhile back and they said 4-5 weeks I'd hear back so still waiting

Does anyone know what the committee review essay "means"? I had never read or heard about that being a part of the application process for Nova in the past... Is it something new? Do you think that it is a good sign? I had to complete it as well

I'd never heard of it either and it can't be a bad thing exactly, but I'm not sure if it's a great thing either.

They sent me a letter stating that I was placed on hold. When I look at the webstar.nova account, it does not say anything about doing an extra essay. I believe they put me on hold because they want to see how I do in the current outstanding prereq, CHEM II, that I am taking. I am taking PHYSICS II in the spring. So I am not surprised, nor too upset, that they put my account on hold.

I haven't received any letters from them, what does it say on the website you did your sup app under admission type? I have 2 prerequisites left also.

I got a letter this past Saturday saying it. When I look at webstar.nova.edu I do not see anything other than the all of the parts of my application they have received (from PTCAS plus supplemental application). Nothing new.

Hey! So I also applied to Nova and received an email to complete the Review Committee Essay. I then got an email saying to recall that message regarding the essay. I asked Annisah what this means and whether or not I have to complete the essay and she told me I did not have to. I then asked her why some applicants are required and if that puts them at a higher advantage of getting in and this is what she said in the email:

"Only some students are required to submit an additional essay this year. We are working on getting this additional essay placed on the supplemental application for next year. Therefore, next year, all students will have to submit the third essay. Unfortunately, we were a little late with getting it into the supplemental application for this admissions cycle. After I review the applications, the essays are typically required from those who were not science majors and those who we feel we need to see how current they are with the field of physical therapy. So the essay is really to tell us a little more about some candidates. Hope this answers your questions."

Hopefully we all hear soon about the admissions committee decisions!

That makes perfect sense. Hopefully my essay is good enough to get me accepted. Thank you for the update.

I'm still waiting to hear back too.

Same here. My application was completed early September, but I haven't heard anything from them. They do offer tours of the campus. There is one this Friday on November 18.

Received an email for acceptance yesterday. I submitted everything at the beginning of August.

I was accepted to Nova in Tampa maybe 3 weeks ago and submitted to PTCAS on 9/19

I just submitted my supplemental app.! Do you guys think it's too late to submit the supplemental?

Has anyone heard back from nova? They sent me an email that my application was complete (supplemental + ptcas) on October 31st. Still waiting to hear back. Someone whose application was complete after me already heard back with a rejection letter which is weird since they have rolling admissions. I sent an email 2 days ago to make sure everything was fine with my app but haven't heard back yet.

I know people have heard back from both campuses with acceptances. I submitted the supplemental app on September 2 and they sent me a letter saying I was on hold at Ft. Lauderdale mid October. So based on that time frame you could hear back soon!

I just received my acceptance from Nova in Ft. Lauderdale yesterday (12/09)! It took about 7 weeks after submitting my supplemental app and fee (submitted and paid 10/23) for them to send their decision. I know they called me about a week after submitting my application to notify me that everything had been received and it would take 4-5 weeks for a decision so don't lose hope.

I'm so nervous! I got the call two weeks ago that they would review my app. within four to six weeks! Do you know by chance how many spots are left for this class? Congrats on the acceptance!

When did you submit your supplemental app and fees? Unfortunately, I don't know how many seats are left. I did look at their anticipated class size and that is 50 so pretty big compared to some schools! I have only seen a handful of people post on the forum about being accepted as well!

Thank you, by the way! It's such an unreal feeling!

You're welcome! That's awesome! I submitted my supplemental app. in the middle of November so I'm hoping that's not too late. I got a call from them saying they were reviewing it so we will see! Fingers crossed! What are your stats if you don't mind me asking? :)
