Admissions Information Session
JANUARY 5, 2017 @ 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

The session will inform prospective applicants of the criteria for admission to the College of Veterinary Medicine. It will also present tips on how to present a strong application for admissions consideration. Participants should arrive promptly for the presentation. The CVM is a secure access facility and all guests must be admitted and escorted to the lecture hall by staff.

Eastern Coyotes: Part Wolf, Part Dog, Extremely Adaptable

When Dr. Roland Kays and Senator Jaiz performed this unique program last fall, it was so popular that the Libraries had to turn people away. So we invited them back for an encore performance, this time in the Hunt Library auditorium (1st floor seats 400!) with plenty of room! With stunning visuals, Dr. Roland Kays will present the latest research about coyotes and explain how hybridizing with wolves and dogs has allowed these coyotes to rapidly evolve into a larger predator. His presentation will be accompanied by an original soundtrack composition, performed on stage by Senator Jaiz. Don’t miss it! (more info)

Stellar Student Series – Major Amie Pflaum

EVENT DESCRIPTION
Major Amie Pflaum, a Tillman Scholar and full-time student in the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine, has led a path of service as a Black Hawk helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army’s Aviation Branch and currently the North Carolina Army National Guard. Her love for animals, interest in science and medicine, and experiences as a company commander in Honduras, all led her to direct her goal to becoming a veterinarian. As part of the NCSU Libraries Stellar Student Series, Major Pflaum will share her experiences as an active duty officer, discuss the path that led her to NC State, and show images from the field.

An episode of UNC-TV’s “NC Now,” scheduled to air 8 p.m. Jan. 12, will include a look at the development of a drug by Adler, a professor of cell biology at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, that has been shown to stop the spread of lung cancer in mice.

“We’re talking about basic research being translated into a potential blockbuster treatment for patients,” says Adler. “This is what scientists go into this work for.”
