Hi all,

Canadian student here, in my clinical clerk years. My school doesn't really use the American exams but they do for medicine rotation. We wrote the medicine shelf and it was this computerized form 110 questions long - I got my score back from the NBME and it said 89 percent was my raw score. I can't find how this converts to a percentile. My school gave literally nothing but my score and my subject rankings. They told me on "the old scale" my mark equates to a 96.

Can anyone please give more guidance on how to interpret my score? Thanks

If your score was an 89, that's not necessarily a raw score. The way they normalize scores is a black box, but 89 =/= 89%.

I also don't know the percentiles exactly, and I don't believe they are publicly available. Judging by posts on the medicine shelf forum (probably a more appropriate venue for this question), 89 on the medicine shelf is above the 95th percentile.
