Hello!

I just want to know through everyone how my stats are right now in getting into OT School.

Here is what I have right now:
Bachelor’s Degree: Public Health
Undergraduate GPA: 2.612
Cumulative GPA: 2.757
Last 90-Unit Quarter (or 60-Unit Semester) GPA: 3.4
Prerequisite GPA: 3.56

Observation Hours: 80+
- Currently volunteering in a rehabilitation hospital, outpatient, and school setting.

Extra-Curricular Activities:
- Filipino Culture Night Performer
- Modern Dance
- Sunday School Teacher

Current Jobs:
- School Instructional Assistant in the Resource Specialist Program and Special Education
- Substitute Teacher

I have yet to take my GREs, but I know they need to be stellar. I know my GPA is not very competitive, and I am taking more classes just to increase it. My first two years of being an undergrad weren't the best, but I managed to slowly raise my GPA in my junior and senior year. Many schools require a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and I feel like 3.4 GPA for the last 90 or 60-units is not competitive enough, even though it makes the minimum requirement.

I’m also considering on becoming an OTA if I cannot get into any school. I know I will be in less debt and I’m able to pay off my undergraduate loans with this salary, but I my main goal is having a master’s. Is it easy to pay my loans back? Either way, my main goal is getting a master’s degree, but I’m just wondering if taking the route of OTA is valid as well.

Honestly, I’m not sure if I can get into any school with these stats, but if you can give me advice in making myself more competitive, I would greatly appreciate it. I’m planning on applying in mid-2017. Thank you! :)

Yeah you look good. Many schools look at last 60. Prereq gpa looks good too. Bs or As in anatomy?

Depending on MOT program, it should not be difficult to pay the degree off. You need to be disciplined. Others will disagree and say it isn't worth it etc.

What schools or region are you looking at? Others will be able to chime in for specific schools stats etc.

Err, I took a combined Anatomy/Physiology Class, and received a B on it, hahah. :bag: I was looking into schools in California since I want to be close to home, but I'm also considering out-of-state if it means a higher chance of getting in. ;) Apparently, most of the schools in California are over $90k, and I haven't found any other schools that are cheaper in price.

Yeah....that's REALLY expensive. I live in Texas and our public programs are less than $30k. If you qualify for a scholarship, you'll get in-state tuition.

Yeah. USA is prolly 100K in cali. I know some other schools like Western MI is around 45k or so. They only look at last 60. Considering other costs like housing food prolly not worth moving near WMU lol.

For schools in California from my research it seems preferred to have a 4.0 in prerequisite classes, especially if they accept retakes. I would plan well ahead for the GRE and to take it twice. You got this!
