It seems that most Medical Toxicology fellowships have doctors who were initially trained in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine. Are these the only specialties that can allow one to complete a Medical Toxicology fellowship, or can one do one following a residency in something else (such as Anesthesiology or Pathology)?

You can do it from any specialty, technically, if you can find a program to take you (many have salary tied to ED shifts, for example).

However, to be BE/BC in MedTox upon completion of the fellowship, you have to have trained primarily in EM, peds, or occ med as these are the sponsoring boards.

Cheers!
