If a patient drops off new prescription for mail order, do they still need to be consulted? Would we have to call them while filling the rx? Or if a rar was sent and the Dr changed the dose, are we obligated to notify the patient? Or if Dr calls directly to mail order pharmacy? Or is the consultation waived for mail order? Probably varies from state to state. Your 2 cents please.

Generally, mail-order pharmacies have to follow the law for the state in which they are mailing the RX (since mail-order pharmacies are often licensed in more than one state.) So the answer will depend on the state the patient lives in.

Or are you talking about someone dropping off a prescription at a local retail pharmacy, that is going to be filled at a mail-order facility? If you aren't filling the prescription, then why would you have to consult them? The mail-order facility that fills the prescription is the one that would have to consult the patient however legally required.
