ALABAMA
University of Alabama
Three letters of recommendation are required in addition to a Dean’s letter.
We do not accept applications from applicants who have been out of medical school for more than 5 years.

Loyola University
Our program requires Departmental letters from both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. These letters are often authored by the Chair themselves but may be written by the Clerkship Director or co-authored by both individuals. You are encouraged to submit up to 2 additional letters (for a maximum of 4 total letters) with your application.
J1 visas are sponsored. H1B visas will not be sponsored. Applicants must have graduated from medical school within the last two years.

I was hoping someone could give me a few suggestions. Unfortunately my base hospital does not have a chairman of pediatrics. I've been offered a few interviews at programs where this conflicts with their requirements. Should I go to the interview assuming this they wouldn't have invited me if the requirements weren't met to their satisfaction? Should I send them in email inquiring about the requirement?

From what I have seen, getting your pediatric clerkship director to write a letter will usually be taken in place of a chair letter. You could ask him/her to specifically say in the letter that there is no chairman.

As far as the schools that have said requirement but have already offered interviews...not sure what to say. It may end up hurting you in the ranking process, it may not. I'd shoot for getting that pediatric clerkship director letter.

LOR requirements and links are updated. Some of the programs no longer list Chairman's LOR as a requirement, while others have added it as a requirement. Links to the programs' websites were updated. Programs no longer listed in AMA Freida were removed.
