Hi all, does anyone have any experience in applying for personal loans as an MSTP student? Between living expenses, future residency interviews and having a baby on the way it is becoming increasingly difficult to meet a budget.

Credit cards are an option for me but I'm not sure if accruing the debt at such high interest rates is the best option.

Have people had any success working with their financial aid offices? Are we eligible at all for the subsidized/unsubsidized loans that regular-MD students typically take out?

Just my quick reply if you're still not that far into your program so far. Sign up for your local and/or school's credit union. Get a card from them and start building that credit score. That way by the time you need a loan, you should be able to get a pretty low interest rate (also credit unions tend to give their members better rates in general).
