I am currently in my 3rd year and in Shanghai.I am not a Singaporean but was interested to work for some time in Singapore after I graduate (in 2 years)
What are the basic procedures to follow and any pre-entry exam or something like that?

Hi,

I would start by contacting the Singapore Medical Council and asking what you need to do your housemanship (internship) in Singapore. I think you can obtain a provisional registration to work as a house officer in Singapore for 12 months as long as you have an offer from an employer.

The SMC recognizes the medical degrees from ~160 schools (the list is here). I'm not sure about any entry exams, but I heard that there aren't any as long as you have completed the licensing exams for the country where your medical school is located.

Again, i'm not terribly sure about all this so your best bet is just to contact the SMC and ask them.

thank you, something is better than nothing :)
I will try to contact the Medical council. My university is on the list.
Is there anyone here who hasnt been to a Singaporean Medical school or is not a Singaporean and is working in Singapore and who can help?
I am more interested in the experience I will gain working there before maybe returning back to my country.

Usually the reputable hospital for overseas-trained doctors to do internship in SG is the Singapore General Hospital. Good luck! =)

if my school isn't on the list, would that mean i can't ever apply? :(

i'm also inquiring SMC re: this.

Hi! I'm just wondering whether you've got the answer to that question? Cause I'm having the same problem you see, my school isn't on the list either.

If your school is not on the list of the universities approved by SMC,you will subjected to temporary registration.
There are 3 forms of registrations in Singapore-Full,conditional and temporary.

Full-must serve a 1yr housemanship in Sg after getting conditional registration>You can start practising medicine from there.
Conditional-Must have recognised specialist accreditation or degree from the list, then you are allowed to do 1yr housemanship to full.
Temporary-Do not need recognised accreditation or degree on the list, but need to at least complete a 1yr housemanship in your respective country first. Might have more requirements than I mentioned.

*If I get a medical degree that is not recognised,I will try to get postgraduate specialty training in overseas education institutions(US/UK/Australia or your country if the post-graduate training is recognised there),because I definitely wouldn't want to be placed under temporary registration.
Likewise,to come to Sg as a houseman is super stressful and tiring, many people do not know that but you have to work 80h/week on average. It might seem like a nice country to practise medicine, but it's only true for specialists(completed post-graduate medical training) as they work lesser, probably 50-60h/week.

Sources:from a Singaporean who is intending to study overseas under a recognised medical school on the list and attain post-graduate specialist training, before returning back.
