Well, by now your grads are about fixed and your MCAT score may also be set in stone. What else can give you the edge? How about getting to know working MDs and maybe even KOL (key opinion leaders)? If you are a junior, now is a great time to join physician organisations. Here is list of reasons:

- Over 60% of medical specialty organisations are free the remaining are low cost to join i.e. $50.00 or less.
- You can go to meetings and meet MDs and DOs in specialties you have interest in.
- None of your peers ever go to these - you will stand out and physicians will talk to you if you approach them.
- Prepares you for medical school interviews and medical school applications by giving you insight on what being a physician is really like.
- Possible to meet a new mentor and possibly a recommendation.
- Possibility of shadowing a physician - best way to learn if you might like a specialty or not.
- You can also meet KOLs and learn more about clinical programs, medical school programs and university leadership. You never know, you might meet a physician who is on a board for medical student application review. This person could give you a ton of insight.
- You have a chance to learn how working physicians act, talk and think - this will help you in the long run.
- Specialty scholarships - some specialties have scholarships available to student members.

Ask away - very happy to help with any questions you may have.

Sounds great. What are your recommendations to begin the process?
