I have been following the posted information for the new Hospice Medical Director certification process on AAHPM's website (coming in 2013! Yeah!). What do others think of this?
As someone who has taken and passed (and paid a lot of money for) USMLE Part 1, USMLE Part 2 and the clinical skills exam, USMLE Part 3, the board exam in my primary specialty and the board exam for HPM, I have to say that I see paying for, studying for, and sitting for, yet another examination as redundant. How much money can reasonably be extracted before I am determined to be a competent practitioner?
What's next? Perhaps there can be an exam for cardiologists to take before they can read EKGs. Or, perhaps pulmonologists can achieve specialty certification in ventilator management. Where does it end?
