What's the ballpark range of $ that you get from using your GI Bill for fellowship? What does it depend on?

And what happens with this "$600 kicker" that I've seen referenced? Does that just need to be paid before leaving active duty?

Post-9/11 GIB gives $1000 for books, and a monthly housing allowance equal to an E5 with dependents for where your program is. For me, that's about $1350 a month, tax free. You can use this benefit for up to 36 months. Someone else will have to chime in regarding the Montgomery GIB, as I decided it wasn't worth the extra hoops for my one year fellowship.
