In light of all this recent opioid talk and today's HHS press conference, how about some meaningful change for those at the front lines of this epidemic- physicians such as pain docs. How about making narcan not cost prohibitive for those who don't have insurance ($130!). How about non opioid adjuncts that aren't cost prohibitive? My God, even getting a lidocaine patch covered by insurance is a near impossibility. The only thing that is cheap out there are... opioids! Gimme a break.
Disclaimer: at the end of the day, although I mention 'cost prohibitive', if a (low income) patient is serious about not being on opioids, then there should be a willingness to pay out-of-pocket. Because many of these patients (but not all) are spending more on cigarettes and cable TV per month
