Hi everyone, recently accepted into both Umass (IS) and Georgetown!
Interested in matching into various specialties (from not super competitive like ID/peds to competitive like ortho). Want to keep options open and preferably match into Boston.
Georgetown:
+Heavy surgical subspecialty match
+Fun location (have lived in DC+near Georgetown and I love the area)
+ Name brand
- Not great facilities
- Gunner culture (?)
- High COA + COL (~400k)
UMass:
+ Heavy northeast match list (Boston, CT, NYC)
+ Lower COA + COL (~270k)
+ Family lives near here
- Biggest con is living in Worcester. Prefer larger cities
- Understand that prestige is different in med school compared to overall name, but Georgetown has a more national "name brand" than UMass.
How does the outside medical community view these 2 schools? I feel like I'm in an echo chamber since very familiar with both, having lived in both DC and MA. Not sure what an "outsider" not affiliated with either of these 2 schools/areas would think. How do you balance desirable location vs cost?
