Ive heard that the AAE will force schools to follow a strict guideline regarding interview and acceptance process starting next year. ive also heard that endo application will be starting in Jan of next year, not May like right now. Next year, schools can only start their interviews after August 1st. They cannot be sneaky and interview candidates way before their deadline .

I didn't apply there so no hard feelings. 10 days is just too short for a professional to take time off...
I agree, I think that's pretty unfair to expect someone to possibly fly across the country for an interview on such short notice. I certainly wouldn't be able to swing that...

Without a doubt, It would be hard for me to swing it with work on such short notice, luckily this hasn't happened to me yet.

Last year, Houston sent out invitations 2 days before, so it can get a lot worse. Often if you're taking someone else's spot because s/he yielded his or her spot, then you can get belated invitations. I have turned down a bunch of interviews less than a week away myself in the past. Having said, though, I was still thankful I was invited.

I imagine people who went to Louisville know by now if they got in. I was under the impression they told you soon after the interview if you got in or not, maybe I'm wrong?

Got an invite from University of Nebraska August 11. That's a month in advance, I like these guys already!

I hope not because I have an interview at Louisville on July 24...

Louisville isn't making their picks until after their 2nd interview date. At least that's what Dr Clark told us during our interview last week. So probably night of the 24th or 25th for UL. Also, see ya at Nebraska, Drillsgt

Everything would point to yes, but honestly I don't think any of us can really answer that. The application cycle and the way they choose candidates is really beyond any of our knowledge and when directors review apps is all over the place. I think you're better off applying and trying, then not doing it

Thats true!!

Got an invite via email today, for an interview at USC on July 18th. Not much time to arrange travel if there are others farther away than me!!

Dude - that's total baloney. The AAE is like the ADA. It's a totally private org that has no say over any program. Have you met any directors?? Some have strong egos and they sure as heck are not going to listen to a bunch of cronies telling them and their schools how to run their programs... think about it.

Visited a program in the "south" on my own nickel just on off-chance they would see who I am and what their program was all about. Kinda small program. Super modern but I think they already interviewed and did me a courtesy. Last year got called on Friday for interview on Monday. I made it. Wasn't gonna say no. Didn't get in tho. Learned a lot about interview style and questions.
Good luck you guys - keep the list updated

that's what people at Case Western told me. PASS is working on it right now, so you can take it or leave it...you know that AAE presidents/ board members are usually current or ex-endo program directors right?

I would be cool if you could give us your experience with the interview. Also does anyone know anything about Lutheran at Puerto Rico? I wonder who getting Endo training in Puerto Rico look when you are trying to get a job in the States

Hey everyone,
I know most of you might not have the answer but you still probably know more than me about what am gonna ask!
I got an interview on a good program (West) and I have another promised interview from the school I graduated from (East) and its where I live and work right now.
West school I will interview end of July and they give acceptance the next following day (they been doing that every year) and the east school they will do their interviews in mid-late August and acceptance are in late August early September .. The dilemma is If I get accepted at West school but I really want East school, (and all of this is hypothetical) what should I do ?
accept West offer and pay the acceptance check but still go and do the interview at East in case I get East ? If I get East back up on West ?
I have interviewed last year at East and they kept me wait list and was hoping this year will cut it, the director was promising when we met at the AAE.
I've read here on SDN you can't do such thing as the directors are connected and if you back up on one the other might screw you.
any thoughts on this ? ppl who have done it ? please advise, your thoughts will be appreciated .. thanks and good luck to us all!

they usually only give you a few days to decide whether you take their offer though. it would look really bad to turn down the first school the last minute to attend the second school.the application process is so random, unless your stats are stellar, i say i should feel priviledged to have a place to go

I believe most of us reading this thread are applicants, so I would venture to guess none of us know for sure. I have discussed this with friends of mine who are current residents and some recent graduates of programs. It sounds like it isn't a good thing to do at all. I totally get the argument of "there are no rules" with this thing, but the risk of possibly getting your invite revoked seems real. Everyone here is in a different position though, some may know they will have their pick of programs, while others may have to jump at whatever is offered. If you think you are a solid candidate at the place you want to go, then I would say hold out for that. But my opinion doesn't mean much as I'm just as in the dark about it as you.

Got an Email Invite today for UCSF July 25th

For me personally if I got accepted to the west program I would accept the offer and cancel the east interview.

So it appears that you applied last year and didn't get in anywhere. This year you have 2 interviews....do you have any more interviews?

What I am trying to say is if you didn't get a spot after applying last year and only have 2 interviews this year you are a good candidate but your also not someone with 5-6 interviews either.

You have to consider what it would feel like if you turned down the west spot (assuming u got it) then didn't get the east spot. That would drive me completely insane. Knowing I could of been a specialist then let it slip away.

I think that accepting the west spot then going to the east interview to see what happens is a dangerous game and would advise against it unless your really brave.

My goal when I applied was to become an endodontist. I was willing to go to any school I applied too that accepted me. I canceled other interviews after I was offered a spot.

It's a messed up system. It needs to go to a match system but these are the cards we are dealt so we have to play them.

It's only 2 years....if west offers you a spot take it and run and don't look back.

Super nice interviewers, but some of the questions totally threw me and I think I blew it based on not being prepared or not having thought through things properly. This made me feel at points that it was super intense, but it was a prepped list of questions.

Basic stuff to begin with, but who like bragging about what you've done right?

Tell us about you
What are your strengths?
What are your weaknesses? - very careful with this one. One of the interviewers said everyone has weaknesses and only true introspection would reveal them. Meaning because I didn't really say anything, I think he believes I'm phoney.
Describe an accomplishment you are most proud of.
What is your decision-making style?
How do you handle stress?
What patient's do you have difficulty relating to? What tactics do you use to turn a breakdown moment into a breakthrough moment with those types of patients?
What leadership positions have you held?
What instrumentation sequence do you use?
Who is your role model and why?
Where do you see endo in 10 years?
What are you looking for in an endo program?
Have you been in organized dentistry?
Have you participated in research?
What specifically attracted you to this program? Really difficult with websites having so little, which is why I came to check this place out.

These guys have a very strong clinical program. More than that they only want someone who wants to work with them and not someone who just chose them because it was the first offer they got. Class interaction is supposed to be paramount here. "Chemistry" and "unit cohesiveness" were words I kept hearing.

I'll leave it :headphone:
PASS is a database of applicants. They have no say over University policies. That's up to the board of regents and nobody at a bona fide school cares about the aae and what they think
don't get me wrong... i would hate having to choose a school just because it offered me a spot first and wasn't my first choice but few if any schools would move to match

Just heard from VCU, interview invite for Aug. 2.

Has anyone heard from the University of Maryland?
