I am a second year medical student who just finished up an orthopedic internship over the summer. I loved it but wow... There is so much radiation exposure. Are there any surgical/procedural-based specialties that don't get exposed to radiation?

Thanks.

Surgical oncology, general surgery (rarely in vascular procedures or IOC), colorectal surgery, plastic surgery, peds surgery (rarely for lines).

More radiation with vascular surgery, Ortho, hand, neurosurgery,

CT has decent doses if at a wire heavy place, less so if you're thoracic track.

A little radiation probably make you healthier.

Much lower effective doses to the surgeon then vascular, cards, or IR. We generally use much less fluoro time compared to vascular procedures and are further from the source with likely exception of pcnl. Not sure how it compares to Ortho or Neurosurgery though.
