Hi all,

I'm looking for an ENT surgeon to get operated by and I thought maybe you could help in choosing one. I would really appreciate some feedback on this. Sorry if it's a long read, I tried to keep it short. Thank you very much!

My primary rhinoplasty was not a success at all. My nose looks a bit weird and funny now, but more importantly my septum is really deviated. I can't breath properly. So I have to do a revision.

I have to go to a Dutch ENT doctor first for him to determine whether I have medical reason for the surgery, in order to get it financed by my insurance (only the part for deviated septum will get financed). After that I can choose to have the surgery done by someone abroad, but then I will get less financed.

I have found some doctors in the Netherlands with a good presence on the internet (good reviews). Could you give me your opinion on whether these are good doctors on paper and which ones seem to be the best? Also, is it worth it to go abroad when you already have these doctors in The Netherlands? I'm going to have a consult with 3 of them or so, but I would like some opinions on their curriculum vitae too.

In The Netherlands we have this big site where every hospital and medical professional can be rated by patients, although fake reviews can be placed easily too. Also you can't post pictures on that site.

Dr. L.D.G. Stanojcic (ENT):

He has specialized himself in functional and aesthetic Rhinoplasty, Endoscopig surgery of the sinus and Plastic and reconstructive auricle-surgery. He is mainly specialized in Rhinoplasty though. He works at 4 hospitals and is member of The European Acadamy of Facial Plastic Surgery and a Dutch ENT society.

His website is very amateur-like and he only has 1 before-after photo.
His site: http://www.mooieneus.nl

Link to pdf with before/after pictures: http://www.ziekenhuisamstelland.nl/...ndom-functioneel-cosmetische-neusoperatie.pdf

He has 84 reviews with a total score of 9.3 out of 10.
43 of these reviews are about nose surgeries, with people talking about how happy they are that they can breathe much much better than before the surgery.
17 of these 43 people also say something about the aesthetics, that they are (very) happy with the aesthetic improvements this doctor has made.

1 person is very unhappy, saying he messed up his nose 2 times and saying he was very rude and impatient. 2 other people said he was a bit rude too, but they were happy with the results.

Dr. Niels van Heerbeek

He works at a private clinic, but also at a hospital.
Website of his clinic: http://www.enfaceclinique.nl/dr-niels-van-heerbeek/
Here you can find before/after photo's: http://www.enfaceclinique.nl/neuscorrectie/#lightbox[group]/0/
These photo's are either of him, or his colleague who works in the same clinic and hospital as him. I'm going to tell about him in the next section.

I don't know whether this guy has enough experience because he looks young and he started his ENT study in 2002-2007. After that he studied plastic and reconstructive facial plastic surgeon (not sure if that;'s the right word). He does work as an ENT surgeon in a university hospital. In 2008 he succeeded in his American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Exam and thus recognized by the International Federation of Facial Plastic Surgery Societies as facial plastic surgeon.

He is course director of International Course on Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery of the Nose and Face (Around the Nose) .
He is a member of the European Academy for Facial Plastic Surgery.
He has written 30 international articles.

He has good reviews though. On the reviews website he has 148 reviews (!) with an average of 9.3/10.
29 of these reviews were about rhinoplasty and septum correction.
21 of these 29 reviews said something about being (very) happy with the aesthetic improvements.

No one complained about bad nose surgeries.

He does work with 3D-imaging.

Dr. Koen Ingels

He works in the same clinic and hospital as the previous surgeon. His website: http://www.enfaceclinique.nl/dr-koen-ingels/
Here you can find before/after photo's: http://www.enfaceclinique.nl/neuscorrectie/#lightbox[group]/0/
These photo's are either of him, or his colleague who works in the same clinic and hospital as him.

He is a bit older and started much earlier. He did his ENT study in 1986-1990. After that he worked in a hospital where he became an expert in head- and neck surgeon. Since 1996 he works in the Facial Plastic Surgery center in another hospital. He is the co-founder of this center.

In 2008 he too succeeded in his American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Exam and thus recognized by the International Federation of Facial Plastic Surgery Societies as facial plastic surgeon.
He is course director of International Course on Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery of the Nose and Face (Around the Nose) .
In 1996 till 2004 he was secretary of the European Rhinologic Society. Since 2003 he is representative of the Netherlands in the European Academy for Facial Plastic Surgery.
He is on the editorial board of the magazine Rhinology and has written 40 international articles.

On the reviews website he has 93 reviews with an average of 9.3/10.
27 of these reviews were about rhinoplasty and septum correction.
18 of these 27 reviews said something about being (very) happy with the aesthetic improvements.

No one complained about bad nose surgeries.

He does work with 3D-imaging.
So he is older than his colleague, but has less reviews.

Prof. Gilbert Nolst Trenité

Then we have the (world) famous professor. He has 30 years of experience and has operated on thousands of noses, including famous Dutch people . He has written an international textbook and contributed to many textbooks. All of this information is according to his website, where you can find more information in English: https://www.rhinoplasty.nl/
He also has before/after photo's: https://www.rhinoplasty.nl/patient-gallery/

He has 15 reviews on the aforementioned site with an average of 9.
1 of the 15 reviewers was unhappy. He didn't like the result and said that the doctor took cartilage from his ear and now his ear is deformed. He also said the doctor doesn't take him seriously and is rude.

You can also find more reviews when you do a search (on google). There aren't that many tho (4 or 5 reviews i think?). Here too there are bad reviews, people say he is rude and doesn't listen. Is very stubborn and does what he wants.

Is it even worth consulting with him? He is very (the most) experienced but has few reviews and a big part are negative reviews. Tough case. Or not?

Dr. D.J. Menger

I'm so tired right now, that i'm going to link to his website for information (in English): http://doktermenger.nl/E_DR_MENGER.html
He has a good gallery: http://doktermenger.nl/GALLERY/GALLERY.html

He is taught by Nolst Trenite (above).
Very specialized in rhinoplasty. I think he only does rhinoplasty.

He was also on TV where he operated on these two people. You can see the results: http://www.rtl.nl/(/programma/gewoo...1deelnemer_hoofdbehandeling_neuscorrectie.xml

You can see the video of this result too: http://www.rtl.nl/components/progra...k01/vr_gewoonmooier_afl1_brenda.avi_plain.xml

He has a very, very impressive course with before/afters here:

Someone said he doesn't do 3d-photos or photo's in general .

On the site aforementioned, he has 15 reviews with an average of 9/10. All the reviews are about rhinoplasty.
13 people gave him a 10/10.
2 of the 15 people were not so happy about him. They didn't say anything explicitly about the results. One said he is the worst and most rude doctor ever. He doesn't listen and is not friendly at all. The other one said he doesn't do what he promised. He doesn't listen to his patients. So I think both have had surgery they are not happy with.

After a google search I came across 5 more very positive reviews and 2 negative reviews. 2 were not happy with the result. Both of them said he didn't give me what he promised. One said he is rude and doesn't listen. Maybe they are the same reviewers but on a different site?

Please give me your opinion on whether these are good candidates and which ones would be the best bet? And should I go to an American doctor? Or doctor Ion in London?

Also. can I trust these reviews? I mean, an economically driven doctor can create fake reviews easily...

Thank you very much!
