AEGD/GPR residency visiting

Is it a good idea to visit programs you are interested in before applying to AEGD/GPR? Or is that frowned upon?

I encourage applicants to contact the program directors and to visit programs they are interested in- not only is it beneficial for you to talk to residents firsthand and see how it is but it also shows you have a strong interest in the program as well for the director.

Definitely recommend. I think visiting had a major impact for me on getting invited to interview at certain programs.

I only received interviews at places I visited.

sure you can, not too early. you may not know what you really want from a program clinically though at this point.

Thank you! That's true...I'll be visiting some friends in different states so I figured why not if I'm in the area. Is it ok to call the program directors to see if I can set up a visit? And because it is early, would a visit like this have any influence on my application next year?

Sure you can try it no problem. Email might be easier but whatever.

Visiting a program is like an audition. It could only help you if you are a normal well behaved person. If you act off or seem like you won’t be a good fit they will trash your App when it comes.
