I hate to scatter the main 2016-2017 General Surgery interview invite/rejection list, but I think it would be helpful for IMGs to know where they stand among other IMGs since we have that extra filter to deal with.

Please enter the following under the corresponding state:
"Name of program / Categorical or Preliminary / (Date you received it) / Dates offered for interviews"

Just how Winged Scapula suggested these threads work: reply to the OP thread, adding in your information (in bold print AND/OR putting at the top "adding in [program] info")

Please include rejections as well so we can get the best handle on which programs are attacking their application stacks. And please limit this thread to interview/rejection posts -- no discussions please!

Here's to keeping the dream alive. Good luck everyone!

Thanks for the encouragement, @GingyKhan. It's been all crickets in here! Hopefully we'll get some more activity soon ... maybe after MSPEs are released on the 1st?

Thanks for sharing, @Pentalogy. You should be in a good spot with those credentials and number of programs applied to.

Tomorrow is a big day. With MSPEs released on Saturday, we should be getting the second wave of invites/rejections on Monday. Good luck to everyone.

Non US img . 252 / 268 / 1st attempt / multiple publications / surgical oncologist.
103 programs.
Silence so far.

Thanks for sharing, @ultrunique and @OncoSurg.

One program got back to me and said they will start sending out invites on October 20. I've heard surgery programs send out invites later than other programs, but the activity in the main General Surgery Interview/Rejections Thread would suggest many programs have already gotten started.

Not worried about the people in here. Everyone's got great credentials. They'll send out invites to the AMGs first and we'll be up next.

OncoSurg I didn't even mind the rejection from Columbia but South Dakota?

Haven't applied there...The truth is thst these are hard days for us.. still, an average of 50 non us img match categorical every year. I've realized that the img wave of IV will probably happen only after almost all amgs.. the main thread has around 60 posts by now... It will reach around 300 by the end of the season according to the past years, so I like to think that we still have 80% of the road ahead.

South Dakota has a very small number of position and received well over 500 applications. They only invite ten percent from what I know. Coming from a South Dakotan who also received a rejection

several rejections, 1 IV from Yale so far. non-us img step1 279, step2 282, 2 publications, 4month usce. finger crossed.

Great board scores! Do you care to list the places where you were rejected? To have an idea which programs are already looking through their applicants. Thanks

Rejection Medstar Union Memorial Hospital
This is my third after south dakota and columbia.
A quick query about columbia do they send interviews to graduates or just they interview 4th medical students as stated in their website ??

Got a rejection from MedStar Union Memorial, too.

Congrats on the Yale invite, @adrenaline junkie. Unreal scores! You mind sharing more information on the invite (eg, interview dates, cat/prelim, etc.)?

Me too.
Did they state that your application didnt fullfil all requirements??

@ultrunique, yes, that's what was written in mine, too.

The only unique requirement I gathered from their website was that at least 2 LoRs should be from a surgery chair/director/faculty from a teaching institution.

Edit: "If IMG – at least 6 months of current US clinical experience is required. (Clinical experience is official clinical rotations working with attending physicians and exposure to patient care.)"

The Step score cutoffs were 220 for both Steps. This is a 39% IMG program according to FREIDA, so I'm surprised you and @Pentalogy didn't even get a look with your scores. They must have had a huge influx of AMG applicants.

Are you referring to Marshall?

When do you guys think it's time for us to start losing hope ?

Out of curiosity, do all rejections get sent out the same day, or is this just the initial screen that Marshall does, and as the season progresses, they'll send out more rejections? I hope my question makes sense.

I'm assuming it's different at every program. But it would make sense that they cut the fat first based on who hasn't met the minimum requirements. And then slowly weed out the rest. Maybe you made it past the first screening.

Yeah, my biggest worry is that I'm not ECFMG certified, as I haven't taken CK yet.

total silence so far. rejection today Saint Joseph Hospital in Colorado. They do not sponsor visas hence my rejection probably.

About Marshal University, I think the reason I was rejected was because I have been out of school sine 2014 so it is greater than 2 years. They require 6 months of US clinical experience and I had 4. The reason we are getting rejected on the same day is because we are getting filtered out based on the program's minimum requirements. As far as Step 2 CK UW goes I was at 90% but on the test day I was running out of time so if you know the material already try to focus on your time management. That will be your biggest hurdle. There are many diagnosis questions so if you have done well on your step one you can get them really easy. If you are an IMG it will be very difficult to get a residency without step 2 CK score so if you are thinking about applying this year take it as soon as possible but by mindful that many programs have a cute off of 235 and some 240.

Wow 90%. That's amazing! I'm sitting at 70% with my 2nd time around. I have less than 90" questions left to go and my exam is Friday.

When you said cutoffs of 235-245 are you referring to S1 or for CK? I'm stressing tremendously since I'm struggling a lot with CK. I'm just barely passing my NBMEs. (4 - 216; 7 - 210). My UWSA was a 204. Ran out of time and didn't answer 26 questions on the practice exam.

I pushed my exam back to this Friday, meaning I won't have my score back till Nov 2nd, missing a good portion of the Oct 31st deadlines.

University of New Mexico (10/11) 11/17, 12/1, 12/8, 1/5

Also I hate to say it, but I jumped shipped and applied to some internal late in the game. Been having great success with internal interviews.
When did you apply ?
I am thinking the same rightnow

Congrats, @statia. Definitely wise to have a backup plan. Again, I'm sure everyone's scores here would crush in the internal medicine interview world.

Yes I used the same LOR's but vastly different personal statement. I also applied to mostly programs where I did NOT apply to their surgical program

Wise move. Some people say you can send both applications but only attend one interview, but your strategy is the most fail-safe.

I will wait. If things dont work out for me , i'll try IM next year
