I was pretty much in the same boat when I applied two years ago I wasn't really focused and just applied really late but I had a lot good things to say since my first application. Honestly who knows sometimes your applications click with the reviewers and sometime it doesn't and from what I heard Stanford is a real wild card when it comes to acceptances they reject really high quality applicants sometimes for no apparent reason (my little conspiracy theory is that they have an algorithm that does all the application reviews ....:ninja::wow:.lololol)

Moral of the long story is not to sweat it too much I think each school is different and what they look for in a student is different so just put in your full effort and you'll get something

I can't really speak to back-up plans, and have told myself "giving up's not an option" for the past two years or in fact since even beginning to prepare for this monstrous journey. I don't think back up plans should be a default, that is if you are talking about going now in a different direction--but something to require serious consideration. I don't think I would be content any other way than pursuing becoming a physician-scientist (even if it is eternally just a "pursuit"). That being said, I might anticipate an unsuccessful cycle and think about things to do while I reapply--which I think is just good practice for your professional career. I think its not unusual for ppl to need a few cycles to fine tune things from what I've taken from past threads and all the success they have ultimately found... and i think the extra time ends up being time well spent. I say this having had only one interview last year so can speak about reapplying. Still, it IS STILL SUPER EARLY so don't let a little spurt get you down... I have a feeling you are way ahead of the game and too hard on yourself!!! I am learning to be process-oriented and not goal-oriented, which i think is the key to happiness actually on this path. best wishes!!!! rooting for you!!!! :biglove:

Thanks @elphabaelsa, it happens. Hoping for more movement in the next few weeks - I was complete at the majority of my schools by mid-late August, and the acceptances reported thus far have all been for those complete in July-early August (with the exception of jesie@UTSA). Also received the UCSF secondary yesterday, so that's a plus :)

Great attitude @elphabaelsa! On a different note, I'm a tad suspicious of the difference in post count between the interview and rejection threads - while some schools do hand out rejections later in the cycle, the majority of applicants to any one school are rejected. By this point, I'd almost expect these two threads to be of similar length, but I bet that bad news goes heavily under-reported.
