Got straight rejected from here during 2014-15 cycle, hoping a 514 will persuade them to let me attend next fall.

Cooper earned full accreditation for five years, the maximum for a new school.

The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the nationally recognized accrediting body for medical education programs leading to the Doctor of Medicine degree in the United States and Canada, informed the school Friday of its decision.

"We are extremely pleased by the outcome of the LCME Full Accreditation review process," said Dr. Paul Katz, dean of the school. "Their analysis of our extensive reports was comprehensive, the multiday site visit in March was rigorous, and the quality of CMSRU's medical education program was clear. I'm grateful to the CMSRU team, including deans, faculty, staff and students, who continuously work to ensure that we are meeting -- and in many cases, exceeding -- the standards of quality set forth by the LCME."

The school, located in Camden, New Jersey, opened in 2012 and graduated its first class in May.

Any secondaries from here yet?

Reading about the safety concerns of Cooper are frightening. Having second thoughts about submitting this secondary....

Camden is a pretty terrible place. That is kind of the appeal of going to Cooper and serving its community though. If that doesn't appeal to you, maybe don't apply.

Also you don't have to live in Camden necessarily. Philadelphia is literally across 1 bridge, and their are plenty of nicer surrounding suburbs in NJ.

Just got the secondary too, anyone know what the screening criteria was?

They also changed the secondary questions from last year, so as of now it's dropping on my priority list

Camden is dangerous but as @ChrisMack390 said, students do live in other places. In my class, there seems to be a split between Camden, philly, and other NJ suburbs. I myself am going to be living in Camden. The school looks for students who fit their mission though, so if you don't think you'd be happy serving the community of Camden, then maybe don't apply

Can someone post the secondary questions.

One of the things prospective students should definitely consider, even more so than at other schools, is the location. Many of us are at Cooper *because* of Camden. It is a dangerous city with very serious social problems, including poverty, lack of health care access, and interpersonal and community violence. CMSRU is a partner with Camden to work on certain issues alongside the community. It's an exciting place to be with a ton of opportunities to join initiatives and make your own mark (check out the school's numerous YouTube videos.)

There are safety concerns, in terms of walking together, asking security if you need an escort late at night and situational awareness walking off campus. The guards are amazing and they will call you out on things -- if you're walking with your phone flashing around, not paying attention, expect to get a reminder about that behavior. Frankly, all things that should happen at any inner city school. I believe there has never been a crime/violence issue among the students, from what I recall from a security talk.

My take: you'll hear about other schools' commitment to diversity, commitment to the community, encouraging community service, etc. At many places, these just feel like words. At CMSRU, it's engrained into the curriculum at every level. If that excites you, you should definitely apply. If not, it's OK to decide CMSRU isn't for you.

I'm all for working with the underserved and poverty in a diverse community. It's just the violence that concerns me.

Is CMSRU a primary care heavy school? They haven't released the match list or specialty % on MSAR.

The security is very good at CMSRU. When I interviewed, my mom dropped me off and picked me up, and as I was waiting for her to come get me, security saw me standing outside and came outside and offered to wait with me or drive me to where I needed to go. I think the school knows it's a rough area so they do what they can to make it safer for students.

Here is the match list: http://www.rowan.edu/coopermed/about/news/match2016.php
I haven't started yet, so I can't really say if they push you one way or the other, but I haven't gotten that impression

"How do you believe that you match the mission of CMSRU? 1000 char"
"Why should we grant you an interview? 1000 char"

Are those two the same question? Or at least largely overlapping question?

I think there is some overlap. But personally, I would take the second one as "what can you offer the school" and the first as somewhat "what can the school and its mission offer you". But there definitely is some overlap

Got my secondary!!! IS/heavy on community service, so I expected to get one, but a nice feeling nonetheless :)

Tough secondary! The first and last seem like the same question are basically the same, and the other two are pretty unique.

Is this school regarded as better or worse than UMDNJ? It's newer so I don't know how it sits on the rankings

Cooper is a very mission specific school. I don't think it is really fair to compare it to other places based on the US News rankings.

Agreed with @ChrisMack390 i feel that with this school, it's more about fit than ranking. I knew when I interviewed here that this was 100% the school for me

How difficult do you think it would be to be involved in research? I'm most interested in pursuing surgery in the future and I know residencies want students with research but the MSAR shows no funding for cooper. Not surprising since it is so new but I did notice that a few of their graduates did match surgery. Does anyone know if the location of the school provides external research opportunities? I'm not familiar with the area but I'm fine with being in a risky area - I'm very mission orientated. Thanks!

I haven't started yet, so I can't say 100%, but from what I've heard from other students, it's not hard at all to get a research position and many students do research the summer between MS1 and MS2

I don't understand the first question. The mission is to teach people how to be physicians. So am I supposed to say how I am a medical school?

This school has a mission that involves catering to the medically underserved. So how would you fit into this mission?

Anyone have any idea how much your chances increase from being sent a secondary? I guess what I'm trying to ask is does anyone have any idea how many secondaries are sent out compared to primaries received? Just curious. I'm OOS but really hoping to snag a secondary/II with a very service heavy background.

How's everyone approaching the last question "Why should we grant you an interview?" ? Any advice from current/accepted students?

not a current student, but I interpreted it as "what sets you apart from others in a way that you would benefit our school?"

Current student here (starting in a few weeks). I agree with @gamieg. Why should they choose you out of all the other applicants? What do you have to offer that others don't?
